I've worked out how to make sharp photos while traveling as a passenger.

I'll try to explain how it's done, if I get a moment.

The lens is not extra fast.

Next time, I'll check the speedometer as well.

Got it. Thanks. I suppose it helps that this picture appears to have been taken at a time of day when traffic was light -- nothing much to detract from the stark lines.

Australia is so much less populated than Europe.

It also struck me that driving on the left hand side of the road probably gives a different effect than right hand driving.

Must think about this a bit more...
